This project started in 2024 when I, like many others, felt frustration with the job market and the hiring landscape in general. Sure, maybe it was the economy or other factors, but it was also the: fake jobs, ghosting, lack of feedback after interviews, and everyone’s favorite – upload your resume but also manually type it all out.
The whole process was exhausting and I wanted to help in some way. I didn’t think I could fix everything, and nor was I trying to, but I did want to help the people that were struggling (who I mainly saw on LinkedIn and Reddit.)
I am included in this as well. I’m a college graduate (Georgia State University, BBA) who has been a bartender for 10 years, but getting out of the service industry feels like a black hole sometimes. I’m confident others feel a similar sentiment, and what if other workers in other industries have that same sense of an unattainable exit?
If only there were some place that had information to help this whole process be a little easier and make it less daunting. Entertaining different ways to go about this, eventually I landed on this blog. Maybe in the future this will turn into something different, who knows.
For now, the scope will be my conversations with hiring managers and recruiters (hopefully from a vast diversity of industries) where I pick their brains for best practices that candidates can use in their job search. No fluff, no BS, just honest and legitimate advice. The conversations will be edited for length but also quality. I’ve had a couple of recruiting/sourcing jobs where I got to see some less-than-compassionate processes and approaches to hiring. If I am not comfortable with what I am hearing/think it’s superfluous, it will not be included. Possible double-edged sword here, I know.
Some things here may seem like common sense to some, but that is not the case for everyone. Part of this is about saying the obvious things out loud, and/or putting advice into different words that resonate with people. Changing perspective can really help understand concepts, and hopefully job seekers find that here.
